Gothic quadrata and rotunda: evolution and practise

About the course

Working with a collection of manuscript fragments (12th to 16th century) and early printed material Ewan Clayton and type historian and designer Riccardo Olocco will guide you through an exploration of how Gothic quadrata and Rotunda scripts evolved and then moved into type. You will study your own fragments directly, and with high resolution photographs, to evolve your own written or drawn response.

Ewan and Riccardo are collaborating on a series of workshops that blend insights from both calligraphy and type and that share their latest research.
