A flood of tears

£0.00
Sold Out

'A flood of tears'. Quill, sumi and the fingers and palms of both hands' on RSW paper, 2006. The text is from Federico García Lorca’s ’Llanto por Ignacio Sánchez Mejías’ (A Flood of Tears for Ignacio Sanchez Mejías). An example of how calligraphy can add more to a text. Lorca keeps saying ‘I do not want to see it’. It gave me the idea to write with both hands and smear the ink. I also took the decision to add the third line of the verse at the very end. ‘Yo canto su elegancia con palabras que gimen/y recuerdo una brisa triste por los olivos un andaluz tan claro/tan rico de aventura Valiente.’ I made it when I heard that my friend Dave had died. This was another breakthrough piece into a new way of writing.
